Wed., Dec 2nd at 8:30 pm via Zoom: Self-Care while parenting in a pandemic: Join us for a discussion about the importance of self care. You matter! We will share some self care tips, explore ways to release stress, manage personal expectations and provide time to share your own experience and ideas.

Thurs., Dec 10th at 8:30 pm via Zoom: Preparing for the holidays during Covid-19: We recognize that the upcoming holiday season and winter break may look different this year. Join us to explore ideas to help turn this years’ unknowns and pressures into something magical and heartfelt.

If you are interested in one-on-one support on typical parenting issues or would like to find out about more resources or our on-line services, please call our BC Parenting Support Line at 1-877-345-9777 ext. 100 and leave a message for call back.

Virtual Parent Support Circles:  Virtual Support circles are co-facilitated Zoom sessions that provide an opportunity for parents to connect with other parents in safe, supportive environment to discuss common parenting topics.

Virtual Parenting Book Clubs:  We have chosen a list of current parenting books, anyone in a parenting role can register and provide input about the book they are most interested to read and the day and time that works best for them.  Book clubs are formed on a regular basis.  The parenting books that we have read so far are;

  • The Whole Brain Child,
  • How to talk so kids will listen and listen, so kids will talk
  • Brainstorm, the power and purpose of the teenage brain.,

Support for Grandparents Raising Grandchildren and others raising a relative’s child.

GRG/Kinship Support & Information line:  Problem solving, legal and resource information for grandparents

and other relatives raising a family member’s child.  Hours are:  Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 10:00 a.m. to 2 p.m.

GRG/Kinship Facebook group:  The GRG/Kinship Support BC Facebook group provides a larger opportunity for connection, sharing of resources and information.  Grandparents raising grandchildren and other kinship care givers in BC can click HERE to join!

This a private group for kinship care givers only.

Grand Connection Newsletter:  For news on what is happening for Grandparents Raising Grandchildren (GRG’S) and other kinship care givers on Vancouver Island including;

  • GRG/Kinship Family Events: Events may include family picnics, bowling, potluck supper, or seasonal craft making.  These events provide an opportunity for GRG/Kinship families to connect with other families from their own community as well as neighbouring communities.
  • GRG/Kinship Nature Camps: For the past several summers the Parent Support Services Society of BC has worked in partnership with the Galiano Island Conservancy Association to offer Nature Camps on Galiano Island for GRG/Kinship families. These 2-night camps usually take place in August.  **Special GRG/Kinship family events are planned as resources are available.
